Dharma's Garden
Urban Land Conservation Project
Tim Francis
Executive Summary
This is a rare opportunity to participate in the protection and preservation of an incredible unique parcel of land situated in a wildland/urban interface in North Boulder. The project will delve into the practical, procedural, legal, financial, and philosophical aspects of land conservation; including in-depth ecological stud], project planning, and community engagement – all with real-world impact.
Dharma’s Garden is an urban homestead and working educational farm, offering experiential opportunities related to nature, biodynamic and regenerative agriculture, health food, nourishing home life, and shared community to people of all ages and backgrounds. Our aim is to cultivate meaningful connections between people and appreciation for the natural world, while modeling ethical stewardship of the land. After having operated on leased land for the past seven years, our 501(c)(3) nonprofit has just succeeded in its campaign to purchase the property, narrowly saving it from development. This 5-acre parcel includes a working educational farm, a living homestead, wildlife corridor, seasonal creek, and wild meadow all within city limits. Now, with the help of a dedicated group of seasoned professionals, our next steps are to create a conservation plan, put in place a conservation easement, and develop a long-term strategy for the responsible use of the land.
Our non-profit’s mission is to demonstrate, educate, and inspire others to take on the noble work of tending the earth.
