Matt is an attorney at Welborn Sullivan Meck & Tooley, a Denver-based natural resources law firm. He represents clients in all aspects of natural resource, land use, and water use disputes. He has prior experience in government work pursuing clean air act enforcement and the regulated utility/renewable energy space representing independent power producers at the Colorado public utilities commission.

Matt's passion for natural resource law and policy began at Colorado College where he was introduced to backcountry exploration, a strong conservation ethic, and researched the effect of hydraulic fracturing on real estate values around Colorado. He furthered that passion at CU Law School where he served as a deputy director of the Acequia Project, a pro bono effort to provide irrigators in the San Luis Valley with legal services related to their land and water rights, and interned with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

In the classroom, Matt believes that a rigorous analysis of historical environmental theory and practice is one of the best ways to inform environmental change. He expects students to challenge their pre-existing biases and personal histories to grow as stewards of our world.

Outside of the classroom, Matt enjoys coaching triathletes, trail running with his dogs, and baking Italian-style breads.
