International student Samantha Torres candidly shares how her culture influenced her to pursue a career in music education, the challenges she’s overcoming, and why attending our College of Music is the best institution to support her in achieving her goals and her DEI mission. “I know with conviction that with every step and even misstep, I continue to learn,” she says.

“This wonderful concert series allows the faculty to show our individuality in style and interests, and I’m excited to share my perspective in my first Faculty Tuesdays recital this week!” says new Assistant Professor of Violin Alex Gonzalez.

New master’s student Julia Sills—a teaching assistant in the College of Music’s theory department—is researching popular music with a special focus on harmony and rhythm. “I believe music that is relevant to modern popular culture should have a space in academic literature.”

CU has announced newly designated distinguished professors—the highest honor bestowed upon faculty. Among the four awardees affiliated with the CU Boulder campus is the College of Music’s Professor of Musicology Rebecca Maloy.

The career of Kedrick Armstrong—graduate orchestral conducting student—is quickly gaining momentum, including conducting the CU Symphony Orchestra’s performance of Irene Britton Smith’s “Sinfonietta” next week.

Among several Homecoming weekend events, we’re delighted that Willie Hill—College of Music alumnus, as well as former College of Music professor and director of the CU Jazz Summer Camp—will be honored at tonight's 93rd Annual Alumni Awards ceremony in the Glenn Miller Ballroom.

“We wanted the performance to encompass different forms of art, in addition to music. ‘Atlas’ will feature music, instrumentals and dancing, as well as food from an array of cultures.”
