On this page, we will summarise some of the discussions and take-home points from our panels.

"Dr. Scoates,

I wanted to write and inquire about the possibility of doing a PhD with you starting next fall. I'm very interested in geochemistry, volcanology, and petrology so it looks like our interests line up well!

I guess the first thing to ask is if you are looking for a new student. I've attached my CV for reference, and would be happy to discuss my interests further. I just finished working for a year at the University of Washington in the Atmospheric Sciences department. There I ran a small lab and undertook work on triple oxygen isotopes from ice cores and snow samples. My undergraduate and graduate work, however, was certainly geologic and I'd love to get back into that area of work.

Large-scale volcanic processes are of great interest to me, so I think our research goals match up well. What sort of projects are you working on now?

I hope to continue this conversation with you further, so I hope to hear back from you soon!

Thanks, "
