Getting set up:

  • Before you can be paid, you must provide verification of your employment eligibility and submit the required documentation.
  • As a student employee, you will be entered into the payroll system as a Student Assistant I-VI, depending on your job description.

Timesheet reporting

  • On a daily basis, you'll fill out a timesheet or use a time clock to report the hours you work. You submit your timesheet to your department every 2 weeks and are paid for actual hours worked.
    • Reported hours must be rounded to the nearest quarter hour. For example, if you punch in at 7:11, you must round the time to 7:15.
    • When reporting time worked for each shift, use 15 minute increments (15 mins = 0.25, 30 mins = 0.50, 45 mins = 0.75).
    • Your signature on the timesheet certifies your hours are reported accurately. Your supervisor will verify your timesheet and sign it.
    • Any misreported hours will be reported to Student Employment, Office of Student Conduct, and the CU Police Department, who will do their own investigations and charge accordingly.
    • Consult your employer for the exact payroll procedures for your on-campus department or off-campus agency.

Paycheck timing

  • You'll be paid every other Friday, beginning with the second payday after you start working.
  • Your paystub, or payroll advice, will be available in MyCUInfo on each payday.
  • See payroll dates.

Good to know:

  • Student employees who work on campus or at an approved off-campus work-study agency are paid by the University.
  • All CU student employees are automatically enrolled in a retirement plan if they either: work 40 or more hours a week or are enrolled in less than 6 credit hours (undergraduates) or 3 credit hours (graduate students). Graduate students enrolled in only 1 credit hour to complete a thesis or dissertation are exempt unless working 40 or more hours a week.
  • Updating your address with the Registrar does not update your address on the CU Payroll system. If your address has changed, you should change it in MyCUInfo. Failure to do so could result in the delay of your paycheck and/or your W-2 form in January. If you are not a current CU student, you will need to contact Employee Services at 303-860-4200.
