College of Arts and Sciences VRIP Implementation
The CU Boulder Voluntary Retirement Incentive Program (VRIP) is a component of the Transformation and Financial Resilience initiative. Its goal is to repurpose salary savings toward strategic priorities that support CU Boulder's education and research mission. For general questions about the VRIP, please visit the campus FAQ.
In alignment with campus goals, the implementation of VRIP within the College of Arts &Sciences provides an opportunity to shape the college according to our strategic priorities as we implement reorganization. VRIP will be applied in A&S as a college-wide exercise conducted collaboratively by the divisions and the central college administration.
A&S Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Who will be responsible for writing the business case for each applicant?
A: Because VRIP is applied in A&S as a college-wide exercise, the business cases for faculty and staff will be handled by the college rather than departments.
Q: A&S offers retirement incentives for faculty, including phased retirement or a final semester with reduced or no teaching. Can these be combined with the campus VRIP?
A: VRIP cannot be combined with phased retirement. In addition to applying for VRIP faculty members may request from their dean a final semester with reduced teaching as part of an overall plan on meeting service or research responsibilities. Teaching release will be granted only if the department agrees that it will not negatively impact students. Note: the VRIP application deadline is Sept. 30, 2024.
Q: I might be interested in participating in VRIP but there’s a lot to consider. Should I apply if I’m not sure I want to retire?
A: A VRIP application is just the first step to determine if you are eligible for the program, and we encourage you to take that step before the deadline (Sept. 30), even if you aren’t sure you want to participate in VRIP. Completing this first step is not binding. If your application is approved (notices sent Oct. 14), you will have 45 days to sign your separation agreement and then once it is signed, you will have another seven days to rescind your signature and not voluntarily retire from CU Boulder.
Q: Whom do I contact if I have questions?
