The College of Media, Communication and Information was established in 2015. The CMCI alumni community includes you, your classmates and all graduates of the Department of Communication and the former School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

Nick Mott (MJour) is a reporter at Montana Public Radio and a producer for Threshold, a podcast founded by former Center of Environmental Journalism fellow Amy Martin that tackles environmental issues. Nick's reporting has been featured by news outlets including The Washington Post and NPR's Morning Edition

Tessa Diestel (Jour’18) spent the summer reporting on the climate of hate in America as a Carnegie-Knight News21 Fellow. In addition to contributing reporting for stories on the News21 Hate in America website, Tessa was a producer for the documentary American Hate. She shared her experiences with CMCI through updates, stories, photos and more as she reported from multiple cities in four states.

This year, Shannon Mullane (MJour) joined The Colorado Sun as a staff reporter covering water issues and tribal affairs in the West. Previously, she worked as senior editor of the CMCI communications team and as a staff writer for The Durango Herald, where she received 15 awards for her reporting. She’s still based in Durango and loves exploring southwest Colorado. In the fall, Mullane won a first-place award from the Colorado Press Association in the Best Social Justice or Equity Reporting category.

After graduation, Ashley Hopko (Jour) was a general assignment reporter in Arlington, Virginia, for the Poynter-Koch Media and Journalism Fellowship. During the pandemic, she became a Washington, D.C., freelance reporter with Urban Turf, Medscape and Greater Greater Washington. Hopko recently accepted a new job as a research and communications associate with the consulting firm Nexight Group, where she works for the federal Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

After a postgraduation internship, Lina Takahashi (Jour'19) joined the Olympic Games event management team at NBC Sports, where she is working on all of the logistical details for the NBC Olympics operations. She will also support the team in Tokyo during the 2021 Summer Olympics.

After graduating, Steven Bonifazi (Jour) worked full time as a reporter at a Fort Collins independent newspaper, North Forty News. He then moved to Denver and accepted a position as a reporter at NewsBreak, where he helped develop the Denver team, wrote weekly articles, and edited and published a weekly newsletter.

Jeremy Elder (CritMedia) co-founded Boulder Media House, a video production company, along with other CU alumni. Since graduation, they have hired four new team members and created hundreds of videos. Their team is expanding to a new location outside of Colorado later this year.
