The Mechanical Engineering undergraduate advising team is here to help you succeed by supporting you academically and personally and helping you to navigate the department and curriculum. Our advisors are working in-person/remote hybrid schedules and are available to meet in-person or via Zoom.

Connecting with the ME Undergraduate Advising Team

Current CU Boulder ME Majors:

• Undergraduate students are recommended to meet with their advisor every semester prior to the next semester’s registration period.
• Current students can view their advisor assignment, schedule an advising appointment, and view drop-in advising hours through Buff Portal Advising.

Prospective CU Boulder ME Majors:

• Current Engineering students interested in changing their major to Mechanical Engineering should email adviseME@colorado.edu or come to drop-in hours to connect with an ME advisor for any questions. If you're ready to request an official major change, you can fill out the CEAS Change of Major Form.
• Current non-Engineering students interested in changing their major to Mechanical Engineering would need to complete an intra-university transfer (IUT) to Engineering. Please refer to the College of Engineering and Applied Science IUT site for transfer advising information.
• Prospective students not yet admitted to CU Boulder should email CEASadmissions@colorado.edu with questions.

Mechanical Engineering Enrollment Services

Separate from Mechanical Engineering undergraduate advising services, we also have support for enrollment in MCEN-prefix courses.

Common Issues for CU Boulder ME Majors:

• Review the location of the MCEN course you are trying to enroll in.
  • Any 400- or 500- sections are located at our partnership programs in Gunnison or Grand Junction, CO. Make sure you are trying to enroll into classes offered specifically on our Main Campus.
• Review that you have all necessary components of a class when you try to enroll. Some MCEN classes have required labs associated.
  • If you don’t have a lab section in your shopping cart when you enroll in these classes, you will receive an error message.
  • Similarly, if you’re on the waitlist for a lab, that means you are on the waitlist for the lecture. You need a seat in both the lecture and lab to be fully enrolled in the class.
• Review your shopping cart for time conflicts for any lecture, recitations, or labs that you're trying to add. To request a time conflict exception:
  • You will need to obtain written approval from the instructor of both courses.
  • Once you've obtained approval, forward these to enrollME@colorado.edu for further enrollment assistance.
• Please fill out this MCEN enrollment help form, if any of these match your current enrollment situation:
  • Any of your requisites were completed by an approved course substitution.
  • Any of your prerequisite coursework was completed through transfer credit and approved via departmental petition.
  • You had a requisite exception approved via departmental petition.
  • You are currently enrolled in a requisite at another institution.
• For additional troubleshooting needs for MCEN course enrollment, please connect with ME Enrollment Services at enrollME@colorado.edu.

MCEN Course Enrollment Request Option for Any Student Who Is Not a CU Boulder ME Major:

• Please complete the online MCEN Course Request Form to be considered for MCEN course enrollment.
