教材介绍 Introduction
《开源中文》(EverFlow Mandarin)是一本旨在提高由美国外语教学委员会(ACTFL) 所测定的中级中等到中级高等水平的中文学习者语言能力的教材,适用于在北美综合性大学的中文语言项目中学完两个学年中文课程的学生。学完本教材的十课内容,学生的中文水平可以达到美国外语教学委员会所测定的高级初等或者高级中等水平。
本教材包括十个精心挑选的话题,从中国的传统文化到当下社会的深刻变革以及热点议题都有所涉及。课文不仅有来自Du Chinese中文阅读网站的精选内容,还融合了三位编写老师多年教学经验的相互交流和总结。
在《开源中文》中,我们精心设计了课程结构。每课的学习内容以“主课文+对话”的形式呈现,以帮助学生更好地适应三年级的中文课程。另外,课文的长度和难度根据学生中文篇章阅读能力的发展以及学期的整体课程安排循序渐进地增加。之所以这样安排,是因为我们考虑到学生在二年级中文课程结束后经历了暑假,可能会出现水平回落的情况。这样的教材设计使学生能够顺利过渡到三年级的语言学习,并在学习过程中获得持续的挑战和成就感。
突出阅读教学是《开源中文》的另一重要特点。在中文课堂教学中,篇章阅读教学往往是被简化甚至忽略的一环。然而篇章阅读教学对提高学生的中文阅读能力从而更好地适应高年级的中文课程来说至关重要。本教材主要通过以下两个方法来培养、提高学生的篇章阅读能力:1.重点练习词、句、段、篇不同层面的七个阅读策略;2. 将精读教学与泛读教学相结合。具体请参考每一课的“课文分段阅读练习”和“全篇课文复习”,“教学资源”页面下的“阅读策略总结”一节,以及“教学建议”页面下的“主要课型及教学步骤说明”一节。
《开源中文》最突出的特点之一就是其开源的本质。作为开放教育资源,广大中文学习者和中文教师可以在本网站上免费使用、下载所有教学材料,并根据您的教学需要进行裁剪和改编。开放教育资源的中文教材不仅有助于促进信息资源的的共享,也为中文语言学习者和教师提供了更多的选择和支持。前辈教师如弗吉尼亚大学的曾妙芬老师以及密歇根州立大学的周文英老师都在近年编写并发布了开放教育资源的中文教材。本教材在立项时也积极参考了这些资源。站在前辈教师的肩膀上,我们希望我们的教材也可以启发更多同行编写、开发优质的开放教育资源的中文教材。

基于二语阅读平台和真实语料——开放教育资源中高年级中文教材编写(2024年4月19日)
EverFlow Mandarin is a textbook aimed at enhancing the language proficiency of Chinese learners at the intermediate level as determined by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). It is designed for students who have completed two years of Chinese language courses in comprehensive universities in North America. After studying the content of the ten lessons in this textbook, students' Chinese proficiency can reach the levels of either Intermediate-High or Advanced-Low as determined by the ACTFL.
The textbook comprises ten carefully selected topics, encompassing a broad spectrum from traditional Chinese culture to profound societal changes and current hot topics. It not only includes selected content from the Du Chinese Chinese reading website but also integrates the mutual exchange from three collaborating instructors, each with years of teaching experience.
In EverFlow Mandarin, we have meticulously structured the curriculum. Each lesson presents learning materials in the form of "main text + dialogue" to help students better adapt to third-year Chinese courses. Additionally, the length and difficulty of the texts gradually increase in accordance with students' development in Chinese reading ability. This arrangement accounts for the potential regression in students' Chinese language proficiency after a summer vacation and enables a smooth transition into third-year language learning, while providing continuous challenges and a sense of achievement during the learning process.
Highlighting reading instruction is another important feature of this textbook. In Chinese language teaching, discourse-level reading instruction is often simplified or even overlooked. However, discourse-level reading instruction is crucial for improving students' Chinese reading ability and better preparing them for advanced Chinese courses. This textbook mainly cultivates and improves students' discourse-level reading ability through two methods: 1. Emphasizing the practice of seven reading strategies at the levels of words, sentences, paragraphs, and discourses; 2. Combining intensive reading instruction with extensive reading instruction.
