Colorado’s population and visitor numbers are growing, in part thanks to the outdoor recreational opportunities that exist in the state. The increasing recreational pressures take a toll on existing public lands and waters however, and by some metrics, we are reaching the carrying capacity of some of these increasingly-valued wild spaces. To accommodate Colorado’s growing recreation industry, Backcountry Hunters and Anglers proposes that the state expand recreational access to additional state lands and waters. By researching and designing options for expanding public recreational access, the team’s goal is to help identify and overcome political and financial barriers to policy solutions that expand recreational access to public lands and waters within Colorado.
